You have recently achieved the required score in one of the English language tests accepted by the NMC. You must achieve the required score in each of the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Registration and practice of at least one year in a country where English is the first and native language and an English language assessment was required for registration.

A Recent pre-registration nursing or midwifery qualification which was taught and examined in English

NMC guidance contains more information on the NMC language requirements. Besides, the applicant will be expected to meet the full requirements of the UK’s immigration processes. The NMC’s new test of competence involves the below process.

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT); Pearson VUE Test Centres globally

4 hours to complete
90% of critical questions must be answered correctly
(related to patient safety)

120 questions
60% score overall to pass
Maximum 2 re-sit

Stage 2: Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Currently at the following UK Universities of Northampton, Oxford Brookes and Ulster Universities.

6 OSCE stations
4 stations are scenario based, related to holistic patient-centred nursing and midwifery care
Unique 20 criterion-based assessment sheet for each station

20 minutes per station with 5 minutes familiarization
2 stations are focused on practical clinical skills
Maximum 2 re-sits
